Gratitude, Growth & Grit: Reflections on Year Three of the POWER Tribe

POWER Tribe Members, Friends, Followers and Supporters,

As I sit with a heart full of gratitude this Thanksgiving season, I find myself reflecting on how far we’ve come in just three years. When I launched the POWER Tribe in 2021, I dreamed of creating something extraordinary—a safe space where women of color could come together, learn together, and lead together. But even in my wildest dreams, I couldn’t have imagined the depth of connection, resilience, and transformation this community would foster.

Dr. Maya Angelou’s wisdom, “When you learn, teach. When you get, give,” has always been a guiding light for me. It’s the mantra that inspired me to step forward, sharing my experiences from over two decades in corporate leadership and my passion for mentoring and coaching. I recognized that despite the progress we’ve made, disparities still hold too many women of color back from reaching their highest potential. The POWER Tribe was born to bridge this gap and to remind women of color everywhere that we are capable, competent, and worthy of thriving in business, leadership, and life.

In the POWER Tribe, we believe in developing women of color into leaders of consequence. Leaders who don’t just occupy positions of power but who create lasting, meaningful impact in their industries, communities, and beyond. This belief drives everything we do and underpins the legacy work we are building together.

We know this legacy is not possible without the sacred exchange between generations, the wisdom passed down by elders, and the responsibility we have to pour into others as we rise. It’s why our signature celebration, the Wisdom of Elders Brunch is so important to our work. This event is more than a celebration; it’s a moment to pause and recognize the contributions of trailblazing black women across the Lowcountry of South Carolina.

A Year of Hitting Our Stride

Year three has been a milestone. I call it the year we found our stride. This community has grown into something I could have never built alone. Each time you recommend the POWER Tribe to another woman of color, share a blog post, tune into a Koffee with Kenya IG Live, or simply say, “You should talk to Kenya Dunn,” you amplify our mission.

You bring us closer to redefining what leadership looks like and ensuring women of color have the support, resources, and encouragement to overcome the challenges we face.

It’s your support—your belief in this vision—that fuels this movement. Together, we’ve built something that doesn’t just fill the gaps but reimagines the very structure of leadership and leadership development. We’ve created a legacy, and we’re just getting started.

Year four, 2025, is on the horizon, and I feel it in my bones: it’s going to be our rocket ship year. The work we’ve done together has laid a solid foundation, and now it’s time to soar. We will deepen our commitment to redefining leadership by continuing to challenge biases and break down barriers. We will amplify our voices, ensuring that women of color are at every table where decisions are made. And we will remain a haven where vulnerability is not a weakness but a superpower.

If you’ve been a part of this journey from the beginning, thank you.

If you’ve just found us, welcome

If you are a woman of color on a high visibility, high impact leadership journey, know that this is your community—a place where your dreams are celebrated, your challenges are understood, and your voice is valued.

At its core, the POWER Tribe is my legacy work.

It’s a movement to ensure that no woman of color feels she has to navigate leadership alone. This legacy is not about me; it’s about us. It’s about building a future where the next generation of leaders can thrive because of the groundwork we’re laying today.

Thank you for believing in this mission, for showing up, and for giving your time, your voice, and your energy to the POWER Tribe. Your support reminds me daily that I am exactly where I need to be, doing the work I was called to do.

Let’s keep building, dreaming, and thriving—together. Year four is going to be extraordinary, and I can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve together.

In gratitude and hope,

Kenya Dunn
